Went to a Birth Today!!!

Today I attended my first birth that will count for my DONA certification! A beautiful little 6.13lb baby Samantha was born! What a cutie too! This was a great day for me because it reminded me of why I pursued this career to begin with. I get to participate in one of the biggest days of people’s lives and I feel incredibly honored each time!

Congrats Hudson Family!

Turkey First to Outlaw Elective Caesareans

Turkey has made it illegal for doctors to perform elective caesareans after they accounted for 48% of births recently. They are the first country to do this, punishing doctors with fines if the surgery is done at a non-emergency birth. Some believe doctors were pressuring patients to have the surgery instead of natural birth because they make more money that way.

Hello!

I am Sarah McDaniel, doula in training! This blog will serve as a resource center for pregnant ladies and their partners, specifically in the Austin/San Marcos area. If you are looking for a doula, click on the Doula Services link and it will give you my information.

A little about me…

I am married to my amazingly brilliant and supportive husband, Brian. In Februrary 2012, we welcomed Evan To the world. Together we are passionate about being self-sustainable in as many ways as possible. We are currently helping build a strawbale house in the Bastrop area in hopes that we can build our own some day. We love people and we love participating in life with our friends, through their success and failures.

My philosophy on birth…

I believe women are STRONG! I believe women are even STRONGER when they are properly supported by people who care about them. I believe they are STRONGEST when everyone present has been educated on the birth process. It is my goal to give families the tools needed for a positive birth experience, that they can reflect on and appreciate for many years.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding. I would love to chat and possibly help answer questions you might have.

Ta-ta!
